"WTF?"
Do you ever look around and ask yourself,
"WTF?"
We can listen for the answers together.
There is no right way to human.
Relational therapy for queer folks, AuDHDers, and individuals navigating the following:
Identity & self-esteem
We each come with our own internal compass for fulfillment and my role is to help you in connecting to yours. Once found, it can lead you to exciting and nourishing places.
Relational issues
The therapeutic relationship can offer a compassionate space to explore your relational history and move toward more soul-affirming ways of relating.
Life transitions
Together, we can access the wisdom of the void, explore your relationship to change, become nimble, and build anew.
Trauma
It takes time to establish safety, and therapy is no exception. We will move at the pace of your most fierce inner protectors, as well as your most fearful and reserved ones.
Alex Potesta (she/they), LCSW
I value curiosity, authenticity, and believe laughter can be a healing salve.
I believe we each come with our own internal compass for fulfillment, and my role is to witness and hold the space for you to come home to yourself. I can offer skills and strategies to do that, but I trust that your system already knows how to heal.
By working together to curiously explore the conditioned patterns and beliefs that keep you stuck, we can begin to weed out those that you inherited (from family, culture, or survival) and nourish those you consciously choose.

Identity & self-esteem
There is no right way to "human." We each come with our own internal compass for fulfillment and my role is to help you in connecting to yours. Your compass may be hidden behind shame, conditioned patterns and beliefs, or internalized oppression, but once found it can lead you to exciting and nourishing places.
Relational issues
Maybe you are struggling to show up as the partner you want to be, to share in love or pleasure, to hold boundaries, or maybe to leave. The therapeutic relationship can offer a compassionate space to explore your relational history and move toward more soul-affirming ways of relating.
Life transitions
Maybe you changed or maybe life did. Maybe it's temporary and maybe it's not. All you know now is that the old way of being is gone. The therapeutic space can help you access the wisdom of the void, explore your relationship to change, become nimble, and build anew.
Trauma
Trauma influences every aspect of one's being; most notably, the relationship to oneself, one's body, and one's power. It takes time to establish safety, and therapy is no exception. We will move at the pace of your most fierce inner protectors, as well as your most fearful and reserved ones. I trust in the wisdom of your system and its innate capacity to heal.
Approach: I incorporate parts and shadow work, values exploration, somatic mindfulness, and practical solution-focused approaches. I bring curiosity, playfulness, and a deep reverence for the hard work of facing ourselves and being seen.
Therapy alphabet soup: IFS, ACT, MI, SFT, DBT, and the tiniest bit of CBT.

Alex Potesta (she/they), LCSW
My name is Alex Potesta (she/they) and I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I am white, neurodivergent, and queer. I value curiosity, authenticity, and believe laughter can be a healing salve.
I believe we each come with our own internal compass for fulfillment, and my role is to witness and hold the space for you to come home to yourself. As an avid homebody, you won't likely find me in the "real world." But, if you do, you may find me searching for rocks and water to play in, laughing with loved ones, or playing board games on a patio before retreating back to my sensory-friendly den.
I completed my Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Denver in 2020. I've worked with adolescents and adults in community mental health, group practice, and school settings providing individual and group therapy and social-emotional learning. Prior to clinical work, I engaged in policy advocacy, gender-based violence prevention, and research supporting health access for trans and nonbinary folks. My community and systems-level work critically informs how I show up in the therapy space.
The story and approach behind WTF Therapy.
Clinical approach
My approach is trauma-informed, gender and neuroaffirming, collaborative & rooted in liberation. I won't bullshit you or put on a persona of "knowing." I bring curiosity, playfulness, and a deep reverence for the hard work of facing ourselves & being seen. I use parts work, narrative, mindfulness-based somatic approaches & values exploration. If woo-woo is your thing, we'll use that, too!
Therapy alphabet soup for those interested: IFS, ACT, MI, SFT, DBT, and the tiniest bit of CBT.
Values and founding
Curiosity, authenticity, integrity, and collective liberation.
I came into this field through sexual violence advocacy, policy work and violence prevention. Collective liberation remains at the center of my work. But for as much as I wanted to effect systemic change, I quickly realized the importance, and limitations, of the people. Myself included.
Our relationship to the different parts of ourselves, to our beloveds, larger communities and strangers, and the natural world reflect one another like fractals. How are we supposed to facilitate restorative circles for survivors, advocate effectively, or learn and teach with each other, if conflict feels intolerable? If every individual in the room is burnt out and disconnected from our bodies? Inflicting the same power and control dynamics on ourselves and one another that we say we want to end? "Individual" work and social change can't exist separately. Black, Indigenous people of color, particularly women and queer people of color, have been leading with this knowledge for years.
Eventually, I moved (begrudgingly at first) from "feelings are irrelevant" to "maybe they're at the center of it." And if you're still at that place of resisting feelings, I get it. You're welcome here. I don't suddenly believe therapy will solve the woes of an oppressive society. It's another pillar of it, and without structural oppression, there wouldn't be a need for it (as it exists today). But, given the conditions, building a relationship with the more shameful parts of ourselves, honoring our values, developing fulfilling connections, and listening to our bodies does get us one step closer.
So, here we are. Existing together in a messy, painful, beautiful, and paradoxical world.

Fees & Insurance
- In-network insurance
- Aetna, Cigna, United, & Kaiser (*excluding Kaiser plans managed by Carelon)
- Out-of-network
-
If your insurance provides you with “out of network coverage,” I can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement for therapy services. Please note that not all insurance companies include teletherapy as a covered benefit and it will be your responsibility to confirm with your plan that our virtual sessions will be covered. Please also note that a mental health diagnosis is required for all insurance billing, including out of network reimbursement. Superbills are not available for in-network insurances listed above.
Once your out of network benefits are confirmed, and you’re all set to go…
- Ask me for a Superbill: At the end of each month, you will be provided with a document detailing a mental health diagnosis, the number of sessions you’ve had, and the amount you’ve paid.
- Submit for Reimbursement: You are responsible for submitting the superbill with any other claim forms your insurance requires.
- Get Reimbursed: Your insurance company will mail you a check to reimburse you for the portion covered by your benefits.

WTF Therapy uses a tiered anti-oppressive rate structure for its psychotherapy fees based on “The Green Bottle” model developed by Alexis Cunningfolk. Capitalism limits access to necessary resources based on wealth, which is largely determined by our race, gender, ability, immigration status, language, and other factors. Using a tiered system encourages individual reflection on access to wealth and resources and encourages folks to pay according to their financial access.
This system also allows me to offer reduced fees or “sliding scale” spots that are prioritized for folks who hold one or more marginalized identities. When you pay in Tier 3, Redistribute and Give back, you are supporting my ability to provide services to those with less financial privilege and helping to counter the systemic oppression of resources. Tier pricing supports me in being able to determine the number of reduced fee spaces I can offer based on my critical reflection of my own financial privilege, access to resources, and ability to continue to support and serve my community.
To determine what you should pay, please examine “The Green Bottle” graphic below.
- Tier 3: Redistribute and Give back — $190
- Tier 2: Full Price and Sustain — $155
- Tier 1: Sliding Scale — $90-$155
Please note, it is illegal to see Medicaid clients through private pay. If you have Medicaid insurance, providers must bill services through your insurance to avoid the risk of having your benefits revoked. I hope this will one day change so that clients facing financial difficulties may have more choice, autonomy, and privacy in accessing care.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I schedule a first appointment?
Fill out the request form on the contact page or email Alex@WTFtherapy.com. Every request gets a response, usually within 1-2 business days, and we'll set up a free 15-minute conversation before booking a first session. If you do not receive a response within 3 business days, please reach out again via the other method (website contact form or email) — things may have gotten lost in spam!
What should I expect for my first appointment?
Before our first session, we will have a brief, 15-minute call to discuss your needs and vision for therapy to ensure we are a good fit! After completing this consultation, we will schedule an intake session and you will complete paperwork. The intake session is more structured than the others. We will begin by reviewing practice policies and the paperwork you completed. After that, I will ask you a wide range of questions around your current needs and the life history that led you here based on the information you provided in your intake paperwork. You get to choose how much you are comfortable sharing! The goal is to get a wide picture of your circumstances — not to go deep before we've established trust. After the intake, our appointments will be much looser and follow a more organic flow.
What insurance do you accept?
In network with Aetna, Cigna, United & Kaiser (*excluding Kaiser plans managed by Carelon). Out-of-network clients can be given superbills to submit for reimbursement. Private pay and sliding scale options are listed above.
